A Central Idaho mule deer hunt is high on many hunters bucket lists and for good reason. Of the western states, Idaho’s mule deer population is arguably the healthiest.
Many good draw units, especially in the region of Central idaho, are available, with opportunities to hunt mule deer with archery or rifle. Typically early in September with bow or rifle during the peak of the rut will produce the best bucks.
By and large though, the best Idaho mule deer hunting to be found is on well managed, private ranches. These ranches can give hunters a real chance at big, Boone & Crockett Type Bucks.
In my opinion the mule deer is the icon of the west and any hunter worth his salt has to make a spot for an old, monster mule deer on his wall.
